She May be the face I can't forget The trace of pleasure or regret May be my treasure or the price I have to pay

She May be the song that summer sings May be the chill that autumn brings May be a hundred different things Within the measure of a day

She May be the beauty or the beast May be the famine or the feast May turn each day into a heaven or a hell

She may be the mirror of my dreams The smile reflected in a stream She may not be what she may seem Inside her shell

Natas Travel Fair & Contradicting Thoughts on Tourism
09.16.07 (11:21 pm)   [edit]

The Natas Travel Fair ended officially today after 3 days of heated activities. Well, it was heated at the other booths but not mine. This time round, the event was held at Expo and Boy! was that far or FAR? Hmm... I used to hold much enthusiasm and anticipation for this event because it is a time whereby you indulge in the excited atmosphere of potential holiday-ma kers as well as the buzz of non-stop selling that just gives you the ooh-energy. However, these days,  i just feel dreary and even the thoughts of being able to see old friends in the Fair does not boost my interest to be there...

Recently, a further insight into tourism also keeps me questioning the pros and cons of tourism and for each customer whom i saw during the travel fair, i can't help but to wonder if they truly understand the consequences of their travel and the main reason that they travel. Do they care that the environment is deteriorating because of tourism? Do they really want to see or can accept the harsh reality of living in certain undeveloped countries or do they just want to see what they want to see?

As usual, who am i to judge what is right or wrong? I can only speak for myself and i have to admit that i am also a mass tourist after all. There are places that i wish to go and things that appeal to me in tourist destinations and most are leisure-related. I wish to visit the Glaciers in Alaska, to satisfy my thirst for beauty. I wish to visit Angkor Wat in Cambodia, to satisfy my curiosity on the history and legends of the destination. I wish to go to Bora-Bora in the Tahitian Islands for self-indulged pleasure and relaxation and for each of these 'wish-to' i feel like i am contributing negative impacts to the destination for self-interest... Perhaps i think too much, but well, i believe we should always take some time to think further how the things that we do can actually bring about impacts (either positive or negative) to the environment we are in and perhaps that will remind us to be more responsible tourists.

The Old Guitarist, 1903

If thou must love me, let it be for nought Except for love's sake only.

Do not say, I love her for her smile, her look, her way of speaking gently, for a trick of thought that falls in well with mine, and, certes, brought a sense of pleasant ease on such a day.

For these things in themselves, Beloved, may be changed, or change for thee- and love so wrought, may be unwrought so.

Browning, Elizabeth Barrett
